The Big U in 2007

Obviously this page needs little commentary, as we look at this, the greatest American passenger liner ever built rusting away, thank to Malaysian Star Cruises & the so-called NCL America Cruises, who “obtained” her and the SS Independence on the basis that they would rebuild these two great ships IF the US Government would allow them a US flagged cruise company. Well they received their wish, but, the SS United States is rusting away in Philadelphia and NCL renamed the SS Independence Oceanic and sold her to a subsidiary, which has an office in their own HQ building in Miami, who in turn sold her to an Indian Investment company, meaning that the fine SS Independence will soon head for India and will most likely be scrapped. Colin Veitch CEO of NCL, promised that the SS Norway would also be repaired and return to service, yet, just as the Independence will soon, SS Norway was taken to Malaysia by Star Cruises who sold her for scrap, yet told the Malaysian authorities that she departed Malaysia heading for Dubai for repairs (I have a copy of the Malaysian Port Authority document online), whilst the truth was that she was in control of an Indian Captain and crew employed by the breakers Alang bound, although she did stop in the UAE for supplies. Thus, no matter what NCL states, it is all talk and nothing can be taken as Gospel, for it will change within minutes to suit their own needs and frankly they it has come to a point that need to get rid of this ship, which has become a burden considering their massive losses over the last year.

I wish to thank Ryan Rea for providing these excellent images!
