Important Announcement

The ssMaritime “Save the Classic Liners Campaign” has come to an end!

May 29: As all my readers know, I officially retired from the “Save the Classic Liner Campaign” on December 31, 2007. However, having returned from my two months away and with my health the way it is, I have been forced into a making decision that will mean that I will have to completely withdraw from the campaign and that I will no longer take part in any capacity in the campaign. It is not that I do not want to, but, the problem is that my health dictates that I am no longer am able!

What will this mean: I will also withdraw as an advisor to the “Save the Classic Liner Campaign” which I have handed over to another in the UK. Thus, there will be no further news update pages here on ssMaritime, etc.

As of this date, ssMaritime will only feature my many articles on classic ships that now have long gone, and those few that fortunately continue to sail on as cruise ships.

Having officially closed the ssMaritime “Save a Classic Liner Campaign” and I will have no active part in any campaigns that might be running elsewhere. Although, for those who are, I wish them God-speed and hope that may they have good luck, for I know how hard a job this is. It has cost me a great deal of my personal funding and obviously my health, and I have had to do battle against those who decided to come against me, be they the shipping companies, Indian breakers, or some really rotten negative individuals who just loved their little hate campaigns! The latter turned out to be pathetic lazy nobodies sitting behind a computer with nothing better to do. Some had a really fancy email addresses, which we latter discovered also featured on, how do you put it, a very unhealthy websites to say the least, and then they would email like so called experts on ships. My technician had no problem locating these creepy guy’s signatures! Then there is NCL who is slowly going down the gurgler for they are going downhill fast, and we helped them and will continue to do so until they are no more. Hopefully will go broke, unless of course someone will buy out the other 50% from that Asian Casino giant Genting/Star Cruises, who themselves are not in a healthy shape! My website has been attacked many times with malicious viruses and all came from, where? Port Klang Malaysia, and believe it or not, that is the HQ of Star Cruises. I am not saying that it is them mind you??????

But, after nine years of this campaign in an official mode and another seven years unofficially on my own in association with others in Australia re two other ships one sank the other would not be sold by P&O, but I now will have to graciously bow out! Thus, I say thank you, and say farewell, but remember what Star Cruises and NCL have done to the SS France/Norway & SS Independence and what they WILL do to the SS United States. So never sail on any of their ships, al least do that in honour of me!

I hereby wish to thank all my long standing supporters for your never ending support, including through those tough SS France, Norway days over the past few years when my health really took a tumble. But now it is time for me to rest and allow me to just do what I do best and write when I am able, in order that I might add some further ships to ssMaritme in due course, ships that you have been asking for, for so long.

Although I have retired from the "Save the Classic Liners Campaign", please remember that the Campaign goes on with Alex Naughton as he is now in charge. Alex is located in Liverpool England. You can view his website at: www.oceanlinermuseum.co.uk/savetheclassiclinerscampaign.html and email him at: ajnaughton@hotmail.com. I ask that you please support the campaign as there are still a number of significant ships that are worth saving.

Such as: SS Topaz, ex Empress of Britain - Oceanic, ex Independence and a few other excellent ships. You will find them listed on Alex’s website.

In the USA we have US coordinator Corey Abelove and you can email him in regard to the SS United States. at: our_flagship@yahoo.com (our_flagship@).

Thank you all for being such a good friend for so long and God bless you all!
